BA in Mathematics with a Minor in Bible from Harding University, Searcy, AR (1991)
MS in Mathematics from Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, AR (1996)

Music Experience:

Participated in the College SATB Choir for four years
Member of the College Men's Choir for two years
Played Bass Trombone in the Jazz band for three years

Spent two years teaching in Indiana
Taught for a year at Southeast Island School District
Dedicated over two decades to teaching math at HBSD
Since 2018, I have taught Band and Choir.

Personal Bio:

I hail from Barrow, Alaska. I grew up there after my parents relocated in 1970 with the BIA when I was still an infant. They served the community until their retirement from the North Slope Borough. In high school, I was an avid sports enthusiast, particularly shining in wrestling. I consistently ranked highly in tournaments and took pride in achieving a 4th-place finish at the state level in my senior year, competing at 130 lbs.

Music played a significant role in my upbringing. My parents instilled in me a passion for singing, and we often harmonized as a family trio. Additionally, Barrow's rich band program allowed me to hone my skills as a trombonist, where I achieved first chair in the all-state orchestra during my junior year and played a lead part in the all-state band as a senior.

Later in life, I settled in Haines, where I met and married my soulmate, Holly. Together, we've been blessed with four wonderful children. I've been deeply involved in my community, volunteering with the Haines Fire Department and actively participating in the Haines Presbyterian Church.

Hobbies & Activities:

Music: I am an integral part of the Praise Team at Church.
Family: Holly and I are proud parents to three boys and a girl.
Fishing: Summers find me commercial gillnetting.
Photography: I have been a photography instructor for several years and boast an extensive collection of Canon DSLR cameras, lenses, and other equipment for instructional purposes.
Personal Finance: I have taught Personal Finance/Financial Literacy a number of times and really enjoy interacting with students while covering basic Personal Financial topics. Two books that I highly recommend for students are Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki, and The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley, Ph.D. and William D Danko Ph.D.
Fundraising: I provide passport photo services as a means to raise funds for my photography classes. It's a quick process, typically taking 5-10 minutes. Additionally, our class handles school picture-day for HBSD.
